Knit Me A Blanket!

The common misconception of knitting is an old lady sitting in a rocking chair. Well, I would like to change that idea and turn it into a bunch of crazy college kids sitting on a bed with a bag of yarn to their left and half-finished blankets on their laps.

Note: Not all of these pictures are mine. Unless otherwise stated, they are reblogged or from google images.

My first bit of knitting was this basic scarf (above) using knit stitch - chunky wool and size 8mm needles. Very simple but great practice. And I love the chunky knit.

I crocheted a couple of scarves recently using the half double crochet. The pattern is half double crochet 1, chain 1, skip the next stich, half double crochet 1, chain 1, skip the next stitch, etc, etc. It is pretty both in the round and in rows. Perfect for quick and easy scarves: infinity and regular.
To crochet a half-double: 1. yarn over 2 insert hook into stitch (still with that yarn on the hook) 3. yarn over and pull string through stitch 4. Yarn over and pull yarn through all three loops on hook.
